Tips for citing a journal article

  • Abbreviate the journal title using ISO 4 / NLM abbreviations with no periods (J Food Sci, N Engl J Med). One-word titles like Science are not abbreviated.
  • List up to 5 authors; with 6 or more, give the first author followed by “et al”.
  • Give the full page range (1287–1290, not 1287–90). For online-only journals, use the article number instead of pages.
  • End with the DOI as a link (https://doi.org/…). No period follows the URL.
  • For supplements, put the supplement in the issue position: 85(2 Suppl 1):S11–S18.
