Tips for citing a preprint

  • Add “[preprint]” after the title so readers know it has not been peer reviewed.
  • Give the server name (bioRxiv, medRxiv, arXiv) and the DOI.
  • If the preprint has since been published in a journal, cite the journal article instead.
